Chris Loewy

Chris has coached all levels and all ages of skiers from U8 to Masters. Chris has worked with athletes that have gone on to the US Ski Team, Olympic Games, and US Nationals. His passion for skiing is equal to his passion for sailboat racing. If you can’t find him on the hill, he is probably racing his Thistle on Lake Washington. Go Fast Have Fun!

Head U14 Coach

Dana Kusakabe

Dana is a former TAS athlete and current outrigger canoe racer. Don’t let her size fool you; she is quick on skis and on the dance floor. Dana has over 20 years of coaching experience and is a level 300 USSA alpine coach.

Head U16 Coach

Scott McBurney

“McB” is a legend, and he has the pedigree to back it up. He has worked in the ski industry his whole life, and whether he was hand calculating results for the Middlebury Carnival or running the Alpental Buddy Warner Program, he did it well. McB is the proud father of two former TAS athletes and knows the program inside and out. If McB is not ripping turns with his family in Sun Valley, he will be at Alpental. When Scott is not on the slopes he likes to ride his bike and fly his drone.

Head U12 Coach

Peter Kahn

Peter Kahn comes to TAS from Alpental Race Team. Peter is level 3 PSIA and has been teaching skiing and ski racing for over 20 years. Peter and his whole family have been very involved with TAS over the years, both his sons raced on TAS and his wife was the RA for TAS. We are lucky to welcome Peter back to TAS has our U12 Head Coach.

Jeff Funk

Jeff is a former TAS racer and Junior Champion. He has over 20 years of coaching experience and known for pulling 3’s or backflips. You can’t find a more positive and fun person. If you can’t find Jeff on the hill he is probably pulling a 24′ rainbow out of a lake.

Nicolas Veth U16/FIS Coach

Nicolas is a New Mexico native who grew up skiing and racing in Taos Ski Valley. His passion for racing started at a very young age and gave him the determination to make it to the highest possible level of racing, every decision since high school was tailored to make it on the US Ski Team. Through his younger career, he became a two time SG Junior Champion and had podiums in GS and DH. During this time he was studying at the Steamboat Mountain School and racing for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, and later graduated high school from the Winter Sports School in Park City, Utah in late 2012. After two successful post-graduate seasons solely focusing on racing, he was able to earn a spot on the UNM Ski Team with former TAS racer and Coach, Joe Downing. The four years of collegiate D1 racing at UNM taught him how competitive college racing truly is and what it takes to compete at almost a world cup level. He spent the last three summers helping coach TAS summer camps in Mt. Hood and is excited to start a new chapter in his life and join the TAS staff.

Alex Barounos U16/FIS Coach

Alex Barounos grew up skiing for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club where he developed aspirations of becoming an elite level skier. Through his dual nationality with Great Britain, he was selected to the British Europa Cup team and competed at the World University Games in Almaty Kazakhstan in 2017 among several other international competitions. Alex was a concurrent member of the University of New Mexico NCAA division 1 ski team where he achieved his best results with 5 top 10 finishes in his senior season. This includes a 4th place finish at the UAA Invitational and achieving All-American status, placing 10th at the NCAA Championship in 2019. Upon graduating from UNM Alex will be joining the TAS team where he is excited to start the next chapter in his racing career.

Katy Loewy

Katy grew up in the Seattle area and ski raced for TAS. She then raced in college for Gonzaga University. After school, Katy moved to Florida worked as a teacher and in the insurance industry. Katy moved back to Seattle to take a job for Expedia. Last year Katy left the tech industry to pursue her passion for backcountry skiing and snow sports education. She thought privet lessons for Sun Valley. She now lives in Stevenson Washington and Snoqualmie Pass. When Katy is not working she is probably ski touring, surfing, sailing or traveling the world.

Daren Postforoosh

Daren grew up skiing at Snoqualmie Summit and raced recreationally through high school.  At the University of Washington he started training with the Husky Ski Team, and after 3 years of catching up, and hundreds of crashes, he finally made the traveling team.  He went on to coach the UW Ski Team for 7 years where they qualified for USCSA regionals six times and nationals twice.  Additionally, Daren was a Racemeisters coach for 5 years and has been competitive on the Master’s circuit and CityLeague for around 20 years.  He married a former TAS snowboard racer, converted her to skiing, and now they have two kids and ski, wakeboard, and backpack together.  He loves spending time in the mountains and the excitement of helping athletes progress.

Nolan Young

“Nolan, a former TAS racer, is excited to finally get onto the coaching side and give back to the sport. In the offseason, he’s probably fly fishing for steelhead or sailing.

Jess Little

Jess former TAS racer and still races masters with his Dad Rand. Jess is an avid rock climber and when he is not racing uphill in his AT gear you can find him at the climbing wall.

Naomi Tomky

Naomi grew up racing for the now-defunct Blackcomb Ski Club before switching to TAS in high school. She then skied for Dartmouth College on the carnival circuit before coming back to coach at TAS again. She has been coaching ski racers (including one Olympic gold medalist) for 13 years, a full decade of that at TAS. Off the hill, she’s a food writer–you can ask her for restaurant recommendations.


Kenny Loewy


Kenny aka “Bear” is a solid member of the team bringing the fun back into fundamentals. He can rip with the best, just not Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays in December. Go Hawks!

Spencer Seim

Spencer grew up skiing at Alpental and raced with Team Alpental Snoqualmie in his high school years. After studying Exercise and Health Sciences at University California Santa Barbara, he coached on the Sun Valley Freeride Team. Since then Spencer has developed and managed travel programs all over the world. He has also attained an MBA recently. Spencer has a lot of experience working with many people to create and manage programs.
